Lime Licensing Group: An Overview

Lime Licensing Group is one of the larger and more visible franchise consultancy operations in the UK market. With a regional network spanning ten areas of the country, a joint venture office in Canada, and involvement in over 2,000 franchise sales across its history, it occupies a significant position in the UK franchising landscape.

What Lime Licensing Group does

Lime offers three broad service areas: franchise development, franchisee recruitment, and brand licensing. The brand licensing element is less common among UK franchise consultancies and may be relevant for businesses whose growth strategy involves licensing intellectual property rather than, or in addition to, traditional franchising.

On the development side, Lime describes a comprehensive process covering intellectual property, franchise model design, competitor analysis, financial modelling, marketing narrative, and the creation of the documentation needed to present the opportunity to the franchise community. The firm holds bfa Advisor Member status and describes itself as a Development Consultant to the British Franchise Association.

Lime’s regional network is one of its more distinctive features. Offices or representatives across the UK from Scotland to the South West mean the firm can offer local presence and in-person engagement at a scale that smaller consultancies cannot easily match. This may be a relevant consideration for businesses whose owners place value on face-to-face working relationships over the course of a franchise development programme.

The price-match guarantee

One of Lime’s publicly stated commitments is a guarantee to beat any quote from any other consultancy firm. This is an unusual position in a market where most firms decline to publish fees at all. It is worth approaching this with some nuance: the value of a franchise development programme lies in what is actually delivered, not just the price, and a price-match guarantee is only meaningful if the scope and quality of what is being compared is genuinely equivalent.

That said, for businesses working within a defined budget, it is a commitment worth testing directly.

Who Lime Licensing suits

Given the breadth of its regional network and the range of services available, Lime is potentially well suited to businesses looking for a single firm to handle multiple aspects of their franchise journey over the longer term, including businesses with international ambitions given the Canadian joint venture. The licensing capability also makes it worth considering for brands whose growth model extends beyond traditional franchise structures.

A note on alternatives

Lime is a well-established and widely recognised firm in the UK market. As with any consultancy decision, the scale of the firm and the breadth of its offering does not always translate into the most appropriate fit for every business. Smaller, more focused consultancies sometimes offer a level of personal attention and continuity that larger operations find harder to sustain.

The Franchise Consultant works with a deliberately focused client base, which means each client receives direct access to senior consultants throughout their programme. If that kind of working relationship matters to you, we would be glad to talk through how we compare.
